Evaluation Question 4: What have you learnt from your audience feedback

Above shows my groups music video embedded from vimeo including audience ratings ( how many people have watched your video) which is the same video which we watched in the cinema in which the audience reacted positively to. Below shows some recorded vox pops feedback from the audience:

The three people that have given interviews were within my target audience for my music video which is aimed at young girls. All of the feedback I've received was positive towards our music video but the three people have also commented on what I could do to improve. Furthermore I have learnt that in order to do a much video with that certain genre, the artist should look more into the camera for a better effect. Also as much as the wide shots were good in our video, there should have been more tight close ups to really interact with the artist. The most important thing i've learnt is that some shots were static meaning they might have looked unrealistic along some parts being out of synch which if I come across lip synch problems again I know two double check next time.

Evaluation Question 3: How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

During the course of my project I have used and experimented with a range of media technologies for each project stage including research, planing and evaluation. Bellow show some pictures of what we used.

ITEMS USED FOR FILMING

The tripod was used to keep video camera steady, the battery was used to give power to video camera and video camera was used to film.

Memory cards used to save our video and picture content to use on the MACs.

Still camera used to take location shots etc for digipak and advertisement.

ITEMS USED FOR EDITING

MAC used for everything (heart of the project) for editing, digipak and advertisement.

Hardrive and SD card converter used to transfer data via USB from still/video camera to MAC.

This shows my digpak being edited on Photoshop elements 4 in which I used several layers and effects to compose with the magic wand tool.

I used the QuarkXPress picture frame tool to piece together my digipak pictures after editing the pictures on Photoshop Elements 4.

We used final cut pro but differently to editing the thriller video, because we used a razor tool to keep the video in synch.

ITEMS USED FOR FINAL STAGES

Google and Youtube used by typing in the artists name and song in the search box for research, and blogger used as a digital dairy to record my progress.

Vimeo used to upload final video for people to see and give feedback.

Screen on the green was the cinema used to view my final video to everybody to receive feedback and comments.

HERE IS OUR DIGITAL STORYBOARD VIDEO

This is my digital storyboard which my group  used to help us while filming to know what to do in certain scenes.

Evaluation Question 2: How effective is the combination of your main product (video) and ancillary texts (digipak and advertisement)?

The main aspects that link our music video with my digipak and advertisement is the scenery which consists of an outside garden settings, with our actual music video set next to a lake, compared with my advertisement which is set in a garden, along with the back CD pannel and front inside pannel which all display different sorts of outside scenery pictures which is the main link between them. Bellow shows the comparison between a filming location shot scene from making our video and a location shot for producing my digipak and advertisement:

The audience can recognize them as linked products also because of the mise en scene clothing on artist Almelia wearing pink in the video to show her happiness resulting in me using a pink/purple theme for both my digipak and advertisement which was ideal to do because the target audience are girls who would stereotypically be attracted to this theme. Bellow shows the link which I've explained:

Evalution Question 1: In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The music video my group and I was inspired by was Lilly Allen's Smile, because of its story which expresses A range of emotions from the artist. In the video you can see's upset at first, but gradually during the course of the video she begins to be happy and 'smile' because of the suffering he ex boyfriend is getting. Here is an embedded video to Lily Allen Smile:

Secondly my group and I choose it because it ideally covers one of the three points of Andrew Goodwins main points, which is with amplification because she expresses her end of video mood of smiling, and secondly because she is singing smile which is the name f the music video. The two images bellow shows a screen shot from Lilly Allen's actual video and ours showing the amplification:

Furthermore the creation of my digipak and advertisement style was influenced by and target audience it is intended for. Because it is aimed at young girls i needed to include stereotypical girly themes like pink and purple and blend them into picture along with the texts. As you and see bellow with my finished digipak and advertisement:

Planning: Do's and Don't of dsign ideas

Do's of design ideas

  • Use a clear font
  • Use appropiate sizes for:
1. images
2.font
  • Use clear photos that are in focus
  • Use photos that are an appropriate shape for the page
  • Use a layout that follows the rule of thirds for compositions
  • Use an appropriate type face that follows:
1. genre
2. a house style
  • Be careful where you place the font, it must:
1. follow genre conventions
2. be clear from a distance
  • Follow the conventions of the 3 colour rule and use colour that is appropriate for:
1. images
2. font
3. background
  • Think carefully about how you use and integrate:
1. font
2. text & language
3. image
Remembering that placement of text next to an image will anchor specific meaning
  • Use appropriate industry logos and conventions, properly positioned:
1. barcode
2. date
3. copyright
4. Titles
5. artist name

Don'ts of design ideas

  • Stretch images, this will make them look out of focus
  • Use layer styles
  • Use unnecessary effects. Any effects used MUST suit the genre
  • Place text across the artist's face
  • Use a font simply because you 'like it'
  • Feel you need a separate photo on very panel - be creative!!

Research: Analysis of 3 advertisementsthat relates to our genre & audiences

This is Katy Perry's Teenage Dream advertisement which I've chosen because it relates to my groups music genre because of the simple fact that its target audience are young girls with the picture of the artist in a revealing pose edited in a pink theme surrounded by colorful cushions, ideal for young girls. Furthermore what I like about it is that the important font such as the artists name, album name and date of release has a range of colors that are designed to stand out to the reader.

This is another advertisement version of Katy Perry's teenage dream which again I've chosen because it is appealing and again relates to the genre of my music video. It is aimed at young girls because of the pink and heaven theme used in it which shows happiness and purity. Furthermore I like how the font blends in with the theme bringing out the important notices such as artists name, album name and when the album is released.

This is a poster from Amy Winehouse which advertises her promo album to download, and I've chosen it because it relates to my music groups genre because its aimed at girls and uses the black theme and her sitting alone by herself to show  depression which some young girls go through and I could use as a design for my advert. What I personally like about it is that the font is big and bold which blends into the black surrounding and brings out the most important font such as the artists name and how/where to get the song from.

Research: Analysis of 3 digipaks that relate to our genre & audiences

Teenage DreamTeenage Dream

This is Katy Perry's Teenage dream album, and I've chosen this digipak because it relates to the genre of my groups music video because it is pop like ours. The target audience is clearly aimed at young females because of the wide use of pink & white for the background, typography and the CD itself and also baby blue for the sky which young girls like. Furthermore these colors also represent happiness which is similar to our song, and finally the digipak is mainly pictures of the artist herself to show she is the main singer/character in the music video in which I intend to do for my digipak making this an ideal digipak to research.

This is Kate Nash's Made of bricks album, and I've chosen this digipak because it relates to the genre of my groups music video because its pop like ours. The target audience are young girls because of the cover idea of a young girl which is the main artist Kate Nash skipping through her garden surrounded by flowers into her house which is like her castle, which is what most young girls are stereotypically into. whereas the CD and back cover is just plain dark blue which focuses the audience on the front cover. Furthermore the Digipak itself represents in my opinion purity and freedom which you can argue is similar to our music video too.

This is Amy Winehouse's back to Black album, and I've chosen this digipak because it relates to the genre of my groups music video because its pop like ours. The target audience are young girls because of the cover giving us an idea that the artist is depressed because of her siting in a chair alone which some young girls stereotypically go through. Both the front, back along with the CD are dark blue to emphasize/show her depression, which in my music video you could argue there are parts that show depression.
