Audience Task

“Pop starts are to some extent, symbolic vehicles with which young women understand themselves more fully, even by doing so they partly shape their personalities to fit the stars’ alleged preferences.”  (Paul Willis, 1990)

In this quote, the writer is suggesting that young female audiences are more likely to be influenced by their female star idols. In other words, they tend to act; dress; talk and walk like the way their idol does. I agree with Paul Willis’s quote, as the media is a huge institution, which influences people’s behaviours. A Great example of this is from the images below.

This is Sarah.

Sarah is an 18 year old female who is currently studying at college getting ready to go to university. She lives with a couple of friends in a studio flat in north London. For her, Morrison’s is a great bargain to do all the grocery shopping.
During her spare time Sarah enjoys going out to the cinema and socialising with friends. She also likes calling friends over. Instead of reading the newspaper, Sarah prefers watching the news on a regular basis.  However she cannot get away with not reading her ‘OK’ magazine.

If worst comes to worst; the last two things Sarah would give up in her life would be her iPod touch and her Blackberry.
