"Pop stars are, to some extent, symbolic vehicles with which young women understand themselves more fully, even if by doing so they partly shape personalities to fit the stars' alleged preferences". (Paul Willis).

This quote suggests that women most likely look up to female pop stars of today. The base their image on them and almost imitate the way the pop stars act. For example Cheryl Cole is a young pop singer who dresses very glamorous. She wheres expensive clothing, expensive jewellery. Her hair and make-up is always immaculate. So a fan of Cheryl Cole will try their up most best to look exactly like her. They will go out and buy the same style of clothing, loads of jewellery, get their hair done and wear a lot of make-up.
